BRING A PILL
The second step in our child survival strategy is health. AIDS is an epidemic in Africa, and Mozambique suffers very high incidences; but it is not just AIDS, other illnesses such as malaria and tuberculosis or even a simple diarrhea can kill a child. With their little stomachs strong enough to tolerate harsh medicines, they will be on the right path to the next step: education.
In Macharrote there is no medical clinic available, the closest one is an hour away by foot, so many would just rather stay home. We are studying the possibility of purchasing a medium of transportation to take the sick to the clinic quickly, and/or building a small dispensary.
This program includes: check-ups, regular vaccinations, medicine supply, and the construction or adaptation of a dispensary.
ESCOLA PRIMARIA MACHARROTE
As part of the Bring a Book program, we are going to rebuild the severely damaged elementary school of the Macharrote village in which we have our soup-kitchen project.
Most children are not able to attend school because even though it is free, they do not have the materials or motivation to study; and the few who attend are now studying outside on the ground suffering very hot temperatures and rain. Who can really concentrate with those conditions?
The Escola Primaria Macharrote is in extreme need of attention, and with the help of our angels we will provide those children the means for a worthwhile education.
Project is set to start running on January 2013.
