SAGRADO CORAÇÃO: Since January 2009, 40 children receive a monthly food supply.
Sagrado Coração is a clean, well organized community with many orphans. Most of them live with one of their grandparents, who usually work in the country growing rice. It is very common to see grandma, whose sons and/or daughters passed away, taking care of 6 or 7 grandchildren on her own.
Mayte and Celia volunteered in this community’s health clinic, nutritional center, and orphanage. So this is where Bring a Smile started, the first 40 kids we sponsor since 2009 are part of this community.
Sister Antonia Lau Ah King is this project’s manager and as payment for her work, Bring a Smile helps her with the purchase of the milk that she needs for the nutritional center she runs.
The following is a list of what every child receives every month since January 2009:
Located in the rural district of Dondo, this project was started by the local organization “Luz na Comunidade” with the goal of feeding orphan children from the area. The organization had several kitchen facilities built for this purpose, but the funding organization’s contract for feeding the children ended in October 2010.
When visiting in July of 2010, Mayte and her family arrived in the village by God’s providence; and moved by the immense need, happily committed Bring a Smile to take over and continue feeding those children using the existing soup kitchen infrastructure. The project has been successfully running since January 2011 under the supervision of the Xaverian Missionaries and thanks to the generosity of our sponsors.
BRING A BOOK
This is Bring a Smile’s education program in which we strive to help needy children to get a decent education, so they are ultimately able to provide for themselves and their families. This includes: paying for middle school, college, materials and expenses.
We currently sponsor the medical studies of Simplicio, a very dedicated 18-year-old from the Santos Inocentes orphanage in Alto da Manga.
We will be sponsoring special updating and Spanish classes for Suze in order to bring him to Mexico, so he can get his bachelor’s there. We will also sponsor his college education and expenses in Mexico.
